The Election Technology Research Act would empower two federal agencies to investigate vulnerabilities in voting equipment and propose new ways to better protect it from attack. The bill would create a center of excellence overseen by the agencies that would test and evaluate the security of voting machines and other equipment. The legislation has co-sponsors from both parties, including representatives Mikie Sherrill, D-N.J. and Eddie Bernice Johnson. There’s no date set yet for a full House vote; there’s no counterpart bill in the Senate.”]
