There’s no way of knowing if the NSA’s spyware is on your hard drive

Malware created by the U.S. National Security Agency can’t be detected by antivirus programs. The spyware, known as Fanny, infects a drive’s firmware, can also produce a treasure trove of data for any government agency controlling the drives, Kaspersky Lab says. The company said the malware likely predated other NSA spyware such as Stuxnet, which came to light in 2010, and has likely been in use for nearly two decades. The malware was discovered on hard drives from more than a dozen major manufacturers, including Seagate, Maxtor, Western Digital and IBM.”]
