Theoretical Ransomware Attack Could Lead to Global Damages Says Report

A hypothetical cyber risk scenario could lead to damages of billions not covered by insurers. The report was produced by Nanyang Technological University’s Cyber Risk Management (CyRiM) project in collaboration with Lloyd’s, Aon Centre for Innovation and Analytics, MSIG, and SCOR TransRe. The most affected industries would be retail and healthcare with $25 billion in damages for each of them. The US could lose around $89 billion in total over all industries, followed by Europe with roughly $76 billion and Asia with $19 billion.
