This week we learned that Bose suffered a ransomware attack, ransomware gang’s decryptors suck, and that the US released new directives requiring pipelines to disclose cyberattacks. This week’s most controversial topic was whether security firms should release free decryptors for large and common variants of ransomware or privately use them to help victims.Keeping a ransomware’s weakness quiet and privately helping victims can allow the decryptor to be used for a longer time, but with less to reach victims. There is also no guarantee that the ransomware gang will not fix the bug.
