The Week in Ransomware – June 23rd 2017 – A Fricken 1 Million Dollar Ransom Payment

Ransomware is starting to be distributed again. Hosting company in South Korea is paying a three-tier ransom demand of nearly $1 million worth of Bitcoin. Honda forced to temporarily shut down its car plant in Sayama, Japan, after some of its computer systems were infected with the infamous WannaCry ransomware. The good news is that ransomware is decryptable and is being sold through black hat/criminal sites for 35 to 70 Euros on websites for 35 Euros on Monday. The biggest news was that a hosting company actually paid a 1 million dollar (think Dr. Evil) ransomware payment.
