Between 21 million and 25 million federal workers and contractors were affected by a data breach. That’s larger than the population of New York State. OPM Director Katherine Archuleta testified to the breadth of the data breach today in a Congressional hearing. The FBI Director James Comey called the breach “enormous,” but admitted that his information was compromised. An even larger theft of government data went down in 2006, when over 26 million files from the Department of Veteran Affairs were stolen, though this looks like the largest known breach to occur digitally.”]
