The Ethics and Morality Behind APT Reports

The ethics of publishing public reports that expose state-sponsored APT campaigns are murky. A panel at Virus Bulletin discussed the ethical implications of publishing cyberespionage reports. Kaspersky Lab’s Brian Bartholomew is part of an organization that has disclosed the espionage activities of high-profile APTs. Panelists Morgan Marquis-Boire, a researcher, journalist and director of security at First Look Media, also discussed the ethics of releasing public reports on APT operations that could expose tools used by nations to take down terrorism operations.
