- A distributed denial of service or DDoS attack brought down a relatively obscure US-based firm called Dyn.
- These attacks are common and use huge networks of malicious software called botnet to bring down specific services.
- By targeting companies that make up the backbone of the Internet, hackers can bring down all kinds of other services. Hackers use networks of common smart devices to disrupt as recent attacks are using IoT devices as they are an easy target since they aren’t typically secure.
- Presentations about the technical, social, and policy aspects of cybersecurity issues facing the Caribbean region were done by individuals such as Bevil Wooding, co-founder Bevil Wooding, an Internet Strategist with Packet Clearing House. The event was apart of Internet Week Saint Maarten, which is a five-day conference focused on developing the Caribbean Internet.
