Symantec, Kaspersky Criticized for Cloaking Software

Security vendors Symantec Corp. and Kaspersky Lab Ltd. admit they have shipped software that hides information from system tools. Security expert says there is “no good justification” for the use of such techniques. Both companies disagreed with the term rootkit, saying their software was not designed with malicious intent. Both vendors appeared sensitive to Mark Russinovichs criticism of the technique, which was used by Sony BMG Music Entertainment last year is now criticizing security vendors.
