Supreme Court: GPS Tracking Needs Court Warrant

The U.S. Supreme Court rejects arguments that the 28-day GPS tracking of suspect Antoine Jones’ Jeep was legal. Justice Antonin Scalia: The installation of the GPS device, when the vehicle was parked on private property, amounted to a law enforcement search. The DOJ had argued that Jones had “no reasonable expectation of privacy” because the device was on the outside of the Jeep and the Jeep traveled on public roads.
