Support for Expunging Huawei Gear From Carrier Networks Grows

A bipartisan group of lawmakers has introduced a bill to help U.S. telecommunications providers “rip and replace” any Chinese-built networking equipment. The bill would allocate $1 billion to help smaller and rural operators replace suspect Chinese gear with more secure alternatives via a Secure and Trusted Communications Reimbursement Program. It follows a Senate bill, approved in July, that called for allocating $700 million for the same purpose. Experts warn that using Huawei or ZTE 5G equipment poses an unacceptable national security risk.”]
