Superhuman Hack Brings Real-Time 3D Ray Tracing to the SNES

A Japanese hacker has hacked a Super Famicom Super Nintendo cartridge to bring 3D graphics to the SNES. Ben Carter has created a chip that works alongside the Super Nintendos own hardware to create 3D ray tracing. The chip is a coprocessor designed to boost SNES rendering capabilities. Ray tracing can recreate the path of light in a given scene and calculate the effects it has as it interacts with, and bounces off, simulated objects. Carter has shared photos of the wiring needed to pull this off on his website and is optimistic this can be improved.”]
