Mail security firm M86 is seeing a 40% decline in spam volume since the beginning of October. Spammers are laying low until the heat over Spamit.com passes before they switch operations to another spam affiliate program. One plausible explanation for the drop: the decision by spamit. The lucrative nature of the spam business, nobody is expecting the drop off to be permanent. The drop is likely to be due to increased scrutiny from authorities in the West and Russia, but it’s not clear how long it will last.
