Senate Weighs Botnet Busting Changes

The Justice Department wants Congress to update U.S. anti-hacking laws to allow law enforcement agencies to crack down on fraudsters operating abroad, disrupt botnets used to distribute spam and distributed-denial-of-service attacks and bust “for hire” malware and botnet service providers. The Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, the primary federal law against hacking, must be updated to address “shortcomings in the criminal law,” the Justice Department’s criminal division chief told a Senate subcommittee on July 15.”]
