Cybercriminals have been refining their efforts by focusing on high-value targets that they think are more likely to pay large ransoms. Attackers often use brute-force attacks against weak remote desktop protocol or virtual network computing credentials – or purchase those credentials via cybercrime forums – to gain easy access to targeted networks.
