Ryuk, Sodinokibi Ransomware Responsible for Higher Average Ransoms

The average ransom payment for a ransomware attack has almost doubled in the second quarter of the year. Victims have Ryuk and Sodinokibi to blame for the increase in ransom demand. Ryuk is the most common threat for enterprises accounting for 23.9% of the market share for enterprises in Q2. Public sector victims paid an average of $338,700, ten times more than the average paid by entities in the private sector. The recovery rate for Ryuk-encrypted files is 87%, while Sodonokibi’s gets closer to 100%.
