Rules on deepfakes take hold in the US

The National Defense Authorization Act of 2020 is a sprawling, 1,000-plus page bill that includes just two sections on deepfakes. It asks for reports and notifications to Congress. The Director of National Intelligence must submit a report to Congress within 180 days that provides information on the potential national security threat of machine manipulated media (commonly known as deepfakes) The report must include an assessment of the technology capabilities of foreign governments concerning the technology that is available to the US.”]
