‘Ripper’ ATM Malware: Where Will Cybercriminals Strike Next?

Malware dubbed “Ripper” is a new type of ATM malware designed to steal money from ATMs. In mid-July, $2.2 million was stolen from dozens of ATMs in Taiwan in a flash strike that sent shivers through the banking industry. Attackers use EMV payment cards that have been encoded to authenticate the card to malware that’s already been installed on the ATM. There’s also a twist to the malware: It disables network access to anti-fraud detection systems on the bank’s side.”]
