Advocate General Maciej Szpunar issued non-Binding legal opinion in a case involving Google and France’s data protection authority CNIL. CNIL argued last year that the so-called right to be forgotten should apply worldwide. But others, including Google as well as the European Commission, argued it should only apply within the 28 member states within the EU. The ECJ says the relevant European law does not address extraterritoriality, and thus he was not in favor of extending the right. The opinion is not binding on the court, the EU’s highest court.”]
