Lawsuit alleges unauthorized employees of McAlester Regional Health Center violated HIPAA. The child’s adoptive parents, Gerl and Denise Russell, are suing an Oklahoma county hospital. The lawsuit alleges that a hospital worker inappropriately accessed Keon Russell’s electronic health records and notified his birth mother of the child’s death. The Russells are seeking $150,000 in damages. Experts say healthcare organizations must place a greater emphasis on protecting patient privacy as well as the information security of the electronic information systems that handle PHI.”]
