Ransomware Attacks Subvert Ad Networks

A “malvertising” campaign has been launching ransomware attacks against users of numerous high-profile websites. The attacks targeted Yahoo, Match.com, AOL, and AOL real estate sites. Malvertising exploits involve attackers serving real-looking ads that harbor malware on legitimate advertising networks. Attackers often vary their attacks based on geography, which can make related malvertising campaigns difficult to spot, Proofpoint says. A Yahoo spokeswoman confirms that the company has taken measures to block such attacks, but a spokeswoman says it’s continuing to monitor and block any advertising.”]
