Quantum introduced a series of network attached storage (NAS) appliances that provide access to archived content on linear tape open-5 ( LTO-5 ) tape cartridges. The Scalar LTFS (linear tape file system) is the second hardware-based appliance to join this soon-to-be-crowded space. IBM, HP, and Oracle have software-based implementations and SpectraLogic has LTFs on its roadmap.
