Proposed Bill Would Legally Allow Cyber Crime Victims to Hack Back

A new proposed bill would allow victims of ongoing cyber-attacks to fight back against hackers by granting victims more powers to engage in active defense measures to identify the hacker and disrupt the attack. Many countries, including the United States, consider hacking back practices as illegal, but many security firms and experts believe it as “a terrible idea” and officially “cautions” victims against it, even if they use it as a part of an active defense strategy. The ACDC Act will allow hacking victims to access the attacker’s computer without authorization, but to only gather information about their attackers and share it with law enforcement.
