The master key for the original version of the Petya ransomware has been released by the original malware’s creator. The key allows infected victims to recover encrypted files without paying any ransom money. The author of the malware, known as Janus, made the master key available on Wednesday. The authenticity of the key has been verified by an independent Polish information security researcher. Janus created the GoldenEye ransomware in 2016 and sold the variants as a Ransomware-as-a-Service (RaaS) to others.
