President Obama signs USA Freedom Act hours after Senate passes bill limiting NSA bulk collection of phone data. The bill would end the NSA’s bulk collection program of phone records. The ACLU opposed the bill, saying it did not go far enough to protect individuals’ privacy. The legislation replaces provisions in the Patriot Act, enacted after the 2001 terrorist attacks, that expired on June 1, including a section that the Obama and Bush administrations used to justify the collection of metadata on Americans’ phone calls. The Electronic Frontier Foundation praised the Senate for passing the bill.”]
