PITA Side-Channel Crypto Key Attack

Tel Aviv University researchers say side-channel attacks can steal keys from GnuPG laptops. The Portable Instrument for Trace Acquisition (PITA) fits inside pita bread, they say. The attack was able to steal keys using three different setups. A fix has been released in GnUPG 1.4.6.19 and Libgcrypt 1.3.3, both of which are immune to these attacks. Other crypto implementations may be vulnerable, however, it’s an open research question.
