Colonial Pipeline Company says it is the victim of a cyberattack that forced the major provider of liquid fuels to the East Coast to temporarily halted all pipeline operations. Ransomware attacks have reached near-epidemic proportions in the U.S. Last year alone, the number of ransomware attacks grew more than 150 percent, according to a Group-IB report. The company, which delivers gasoline and diesel fuel from Texas, said it has also contacted law enforcement and other federal agencies. It is not clear whether the pipeline shut down as a precaution or as a result of the cyberattack.
