Pawn Storm used Microsoft zero-day in spear-phishing attacks before patch

The notorious Pawn Storm group exploited a Microsoft zero-day vulnerability in a number of spear-phishing campaigns before the tech giant had a chance to release a patch. Trend Micro says it saw the Russian hacking group abusing two bugs to target various governments and embassies around the world between 28 October 2016 and early November 2016. The group, which also goes by the names Sofacy and Fancy Bear, has also conducted malware attacks against the aerospace industry and targeted journalists who investigated the crash of Flight MH17.”]
