Partners HealthCare Breach: Why So Long to Confirm?

Malware incident at Partners HealthCare exposed patient data on 2,600 patients. The incident was first detected in May 2017 but was only recently determined to have exposed data. Experts say the seven-month delay between the malware incident and determining a reportable breach involving patient data is not uncommon in forensics investigations. Partners says it’s not aware of any misuse of patients’ health information. For some patients, Social Security numbers and financial account data may have been exposed, but it’s offering free credit monitoring for those whose numbers were exposed.”]
