Owner of Cardplanet credit card market gets 9 years in prison

Aleksey Yurievich Burkov was sentenced to nine years in prison for running Cardplanet and Direct Connection, two sites that facilitated payment card fraud, computer hacking, and other cybercrimes. He was arrested at the Israelian Ben-Gurion airport in December 2015 and extradited to the U.S. in November 2019. He pleaded guilty to identity theft, computer intrusions, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit access device fraud in January 2020, facing a maximum of 15 years of prison time.
