New OpenStack version adds support for vSphere, KVM, LXC, QEMU, and UML hypervisors. The new version, codenamed “Cactus,” is the third version of the open source “infrastructure cloud” project founded by Rackspace and NASA. The vSphere code was built mostly by Citrix, which had previously coded support for Xen and XenServer. The next OpenStack release, “Diablo”, is scheduled to arrive in July, the project is working on a strict three-month release cycle.
