Family Tree DNA has cooperated with the FBI on a case-by-case basis since last fall. The FBI has access to more than a million DNA profiles from the company, most of which were uploaded before the companys customers had any knowledge of its relationship with FBI. Privacy advocates have expressed concern about the use of the company’s DNA database. The company says customers could opt out of any familial matching, which would prevent their profiles from being searchable by the FBI.
