New York Albany Capital Hit by Ransomware Attack

The City of Albany, the capital of the U.S. state of New York, was hit by a ransomware attack on March 30. The extent of the damages suffered by the city’s computing systems is not yet known. All city services will be available to the public except birth certificates, death certificates and marriage certificates. The attack appears to be affecting the computers in the patrol cars in terms of incident and accident reports. This is yet another attack in a series of cyber incidents impacting companies and cities from all over the world, with Norsk Hydro, one of the largest aluminum producers worldwide having been forced to switch to partial manual operations because of a LockerGoga ransomware attack.
