New ransomware holds Windows files hostage, demands $50

Cybercrooks are duping users into downloading a file utility that holds users data for ransom, security researchers warned today. Researchers identified 60 apps on Google Play infected with AdultSwine malware. Security experts estimate 12 million users have been enticed to download software from French firm Tuto4PC whose programs and silently install backdoors on PCs. The SANS Institute has discovered a scareware campaign targeting Mac OS X machines using an installer signed with a legitimate Apple developer certificate. Read the full story.
