Prime Minister Andrew Holness tabled the new National Identification and Registration bill. It will allow for the establishment of the National Identification System (NIDS) The government had to revamp the legislation after it was ruled unlawful by the court in 2018. The Prime Minister told the House of Representatives that every effort was made to protect the rights of Jamaicans. The bill will serve as the legal basis for the. establishment of a robust, efficient and effective National Identification. System, underpinned by a legal and regulatory framework, supports safe, secure and reliable verification of identity information for citizens of Jamaica.
