New Attack Lets Hackers Decrypt VoLTE Encryption to Spy on Phone Calls

New attack could let remote attackers break encryption used by VoLTE voice calls and spy on targeted phone calls. Attack doesn’t exploit any flaw in the Voice over LTE (VoLTE) protocol; instead, it leverages weak implementation of the LTE mobile network by most telecommunication providers in practice. Attack could cost less than $7,000 to set up attackers for setting up the attack, according to researchers, which could cost up to $7000 to the researchers, say the researchers.
