The Jamaica Gleaner published an article on December 4th, 2019, about the Government of Jamaica working towards developing a National Cyber Policy in 2020.
This development began at a Cyber Security and cyber crime workshop where the Minister of National Security, Dr. Horace Chang met with the Minister of Science, Energy and Technology, Favyal Williams along with other stakeholders to discuss the evolving threats of cybercrime which the government wants to mitigate with the development of a National Cyber Policy in 2020.

- The effective implementation of this National Cyber Security Strategy includes a partnership with the Jamaica Cyber-Incident Response Team (CIRT) and the Organization of American States (OAS) Inter-American Committee against Terrorism (CICTE).
- Through this partnership, Jamaica will implement a security information and event management system (SIEM) that will detect and provide logs for security events in computer systems.
- The security minister further argued that data protection is critical to the security infrastructure of the governance system and for this reason, the government has sought the finalization a Data Protection Bill
