The number of breaches in the Public Administration sector increased in 2018, the most common attacker being actors linked to a nation-state running a cyber-espionage operation. Verizon’s 2019 Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR) released today offers detailed observations stemming from the analysis of cyber incidents over the past year. The most common attack vector was phishing (294 cases) and a backdoor connecting to a command and control server. The average amount stolen was $24,439 – calculated from 18,606 incidents.
