Multiple cyber laws tabled in the BVI

The British Virgin Islands’ Government has tabled numerous bills in its Parliament aimed at enhancing the digital economy. The proposed legislation items such as data privacy and the facilitation of electronic filings via government institutions.

Public comments were invited in 2020’s first quarter as a precursor to a final reading of the bills in the House of Assembly although it is unclear when the bills will be passed into law.

Copies of the proposed laws are as follows:

  • Data Protection Act, 2019 bill (linkmirror)
  • Electronic Filing Act, 2019 bill (linkmirror)
  • Electronic Transactions Act, 2019 bill (linkmirror)
  • Electronic Transfer of Funds Act, 2019 bill (linkmirror)
