Tor developers finished implementing the “distributed random number generation” protocol several months ago. Onion service developers have been testing this system by creating fake small virtual Tor networks on their laptops. However, that’s not enough to properly test such an advanced feature. To really test something like this, we need to make a Tor network that works exactly like the real Tor network. Each Tor developer set up their own Tor node and enabled the feature. This resulted in a “testing Tor network” with 11 nodes, all performing the protocol for a whole week.”]
