Microsoft Takes Down Kelihos Botnet

Microsoft has announced new actions against a group of people it contends are responsible for the operation of the Kelihos botnet. The company has also helped to take down the botnet itself. Microsoft officials said that the network was being used for a large variety of activities, including child pornography, among other things. Microsoft hopes the action will send a message to botnet operators and hosting providers about the company s seriousness in addressing the problem. In March Microsoft and researchers from FireEye took down the Rustock botnet, which was a much larger and more disruptive network.
