Microsoft plans big May patch slate for next week

Microsoft says it will ship seven security updates next week, three critical, to patch 23 bugs in Windows, Office. The number of patches — nearly two dozen — is higher than usual for an odd-numbered month. Microsoft will release the updates at approximately Eastern time on May 8. Microsoft tagged three of the updates as “critical,” the highest threat ranking in its four-step system, and the other four as “important” Microsoft has issued 70 patches so far this year; the company had fixed 59 flaws by the end of May 2011.”]
