Microsoft: Keep your guard up even after Emotet’s disruption

Microsoft warns customers not to let their guard down even after hundreds of Emotet botnet servers were taken down in late January 2021. The malware is used to drop other malware families including the QakBot and Trickbot trojans on infected systems. Law enforcement has taken control of the botnet and forced it to uninstall itself in April 2021. Microsoft has collected data showing a drastic drop in activity since the outage but warns customers to keep their guard up. Other disrupted botnets have been able to recover in the past despite concerted effort to take down.
