Microsoft has officially confirmed that they are going to be gutting Edge and converting it into a Chromium-based browser. While the engine will change, Microsoft has stated that they will continue utilizing the Microsoft Edge name and will now bring the browser to all supported Windows platforms. The new version will be slowly developed over the next year and will be available for users to test via preview builds from their new Microsoft Edge Insider program. By being active contributors to the Chromium Project, they will be able to provide their own suggestions that would help the browser community at large.
