Microsoft, Facebook, Google and Twitter Introduce the Data Transfer Project: An Open Source Initiative for Consumer Data Portability

Microsoft announces the Data Transfer Project, a joint open-source project initiated together with Facebook, Google, and Twitter. Microsoft recognizes that people will only use technologies they trust and that they can control. The project is designed to encourage as broad a participation by as many service providers as possible. Microsoft and its partners believe portability and interoperability are central to cloud innovation and competition, allowing people who want to switch to another product or service they think is better to do so as easily as possible. For people on slow or low bandwidth connections, service-to-service portability will be especially important.”]
