Measuring Security: My Dwell Time Obsession

Retired U.S. Army veteran says he was never able to answer military’s demands for cybersecurity metrics. He says dwell time is the time a threat actor has in an environment before they are detected or eliminated by the security team. The average dwell time number in the network is now over 200 days, he says. The focus of the security strategy is reducing dwell time by using hardened CIS server builds and using on-access scans for anti-malware tools.
