Barbados Underground published a post on October 18, 2013, about the launch of the “Child Online Protection Program” to combat cyberbullying. Here’s a quick summary just for you.
Just this week, the cyberbullying act caused the suicide of a 12-year-old girl in the US. Police later apprehended and charged the 12 and 14-year-old harassers. This cyber-crime has not only taken the life of a beautiful young girl, but it has also greatly affected the lives of those in all three families and their community.

- The death of this young girl should unleash a wave of awareness of the threat of cyberbullying in the often dangerous terrain called the internet, where many youngsters now live so much of their lives here in Barbados and throughout the area.
- This unfortunate reality highlights just “one” of the many risks and threats associated with improper internet use, and why this week’s launch of our regional Child Online Protection Program called “THINK, CLICK, SURF” here in Barbados, is so critically important and needs to continue.
- Cybersecurity and internet attacks are a shared responsibility of government, the private sector, and individuals alike. At the Caribbean Cyber Security Center (CCSC), we believe that no one entity can handle this growing issue on its own.
- The CCSC is proud to announce that FLOW has officially become the first major sponsor of our regional online child safety initiative “THINK, CLICK, SURF,” which will visit all primary and secondary institutions in Barbados and all across the region, to raise much-needed awareness among our youngsters about the many Internet risks and threats.
