LATAM needs to do more to protect against cyber attacks

Israel Defense published an article on October 8, 2020 about LATAM countries’ lack of critical infrastructure protection plans against cyber-attacks. Here’s a summary:

The majority of Latin American countries are lacking in response to cyberattacks. The state of cybersecurity readiness in more than half of the region has improved by the development and implementation of national strategies to better respond to evolving cyber threats and increase the protection of personal data. Regardless of the improvement, more than three-fourths of the countries lack the critical infrastructure protection plans necessary for responding to cyberattacks.

The economic impact of cyber incidents in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at over $90 billion in 2019 and a majority of the countries require more systematic and efficient capabilities to monitor and respond to cybersecurity incidents. Additionally, there needs to be more active cooperation among all countries and bodies to increase cybersecurity readiness and address threats such as cybercrimes.
