Lamphone’ Hack Uses Lightbulb Vibrations to Eavesdrop on Homes

A new hack allowed researchers to discern sound including Let it Be by the Beatles, and audio from a Donald Trump speech from lightbulb vibrations. The hack stems simply from a light bulb hanging in the home. Attackers would need a laptop, as well as a telescope and an electro-optical sensor to eavesdrop conversations. The research will be further presented at the Black Hat USA 2020 virtual conference in August. The attack still comes with limitations, such as mitigation that the hack is less effective when there is less light being captured by the sensor.
