Major financial institutions have come together to exert a heightened sense of alertness amounts their customers to be more cautious in conducting their transactions via electronic means as fraudulent activity rises with ABM and card machines bring prime targets.
Key points:
- CIBC First Caribbean International Bank, First Global Bank, Jamaica Money Market Brokers Merchant Bank (JMMB), National Commercial Bank Jamaica Limited (NCB), Sagicor Bank Jamaica and Scotiabank Jamaica (BNS) have come together to optimize the level of awareness relating to ABM/Cards scams in Jamaica.
- The joint effort produced ‘Protect yourself Online!’, an online Security Campaign aimed at increasing customer vigilance to their protect privacy and finances when conducting transactions via electronic channels. This effort has been backed by the Ministry of Science, Energy and Technology under its National Cyber Security plans.
- Sloganed ‘Stop and Think before you Click’, the campaign launched as part Cyber Security Awareness Month in October. Due to advancing cyber threats posing the risk of damaging customer finances and company trust, the institutions believed a social intervention to educated Jamaicans on cyber-crime and online safety was a necessity.
- Prevalent attacks in Jamaica included Automated Banking Machine (ABM)/card fraud and phishing scams. However, banks have formulated tips which customers can use to safeguard themselves from falling victim to these activities.
